As a sun-loving nation, we love a dip in the pool. Whether joining the crowds at the community pool or soaking up the sun and having fun with family and friends in our own backyard, a swim is a perfect way to spend a hot summer’s day.
However, swimming pools can also be dangerous, which is why fencing and safety gate systems like MagnaLatch are mandatory around pools across Australia. And while safety gate systems such as Magnalatch® are highly effective at keeping children away from the water when unsupervised, the height of the childproof lock means they also restrict access for people of short stature and people in wheelchairs.
To date, there has been no simple solution that allows access to all while remaining compliant with the relevant safety and legal requirements—but that’s about to change, with the release of a fantastic new product called the AccessLatch.
Read on to discover more about this affordable, no-power solution and learn why you should install one on your swimming pool safety gate.
AccessLatch is affordable and easy to install
These days, all public places and community facilities should aim to provide a safe and equally accessible space for all. In the past decade, accessibility has been greatly improved, however, there remain some situations where access is limited to certain groups—including the height of locks on safety gates.
Some common barriers for organisations looking to improve accessibility can cost, time and effort, which is why the ease of installation and affordable price point of a MagnaLatch and AccessLatch is such a big plus. It can be attached to new or existing Magnalatch® safety gate systems and once installed, it removes the barrier of height for anyone attending your public pool, swim school, aquatic centre or backyard pool, allowing those of short stature or in a wheelchair to access the premises quickly, easily and independently.
Simple solution that requires no power
Another important benefit of the AccessLatch is that it requires no power to operate, which means less maintenance and no ongoing operating costs. The key-operated base requires no electrical source and you won’t need to check and replace batteries either. The unit can be attached to the gate in no time, and can then be opened from a lower height with a key. This allows access for those who need it while also maintaining child safety standards and compliance with the relevant requirements.
The lock barrel of the unit is fitted with a standard PD barrel used for restricted access keys, so it can be opened with an MLAK(R) key which can be obtained for a small fee from the local council. There is also the option to have a locksmith re-key the barrel to a unique lock if preferred, giving you peace of mind if security is a concern.
Quality, Australian-made product
AccessLatch is a high-quality, 100% Australian-made product that is built to last. Designed to comply with the relevant Australian standards, you can be sure it will keep young people safe around the water while also enabling the space to be accessed by people of short stature and people in wheelchairs. AccessLatch also comes with a 10-year replacement warranty, giving you complete peace of mind that you are purchasing a great product.
Equal access to swimming pools made easy
Today, even with a heightened awareness around accessibility, people in a wheelchair and of short stature still face plenty of barriers when it comes to doing the everyday tasks and activities others take for granted. With the addition of an AccessLatch to your new or existing Magnalatch® safety gate system, you can provide equal access to your swimming pool with zero fuss. So if your current lock is out of reach for people in wheelchairs or of short stature, the AccessLatch is a simple, no power solution for pools, community playgrounds, children services that removes this barrier to accessibility, making life more inclusive and less stressful for all.
